New Music: M.anifest ft. Bisa KDei - 'W’ani Aba'

Manifest is back with another Highlife classic he calls ‘Wani Aba’ featuring celebrated highlife sensation, Bisa Kdei.

This music is produced by Kwame Yeboah under “Singitdamnit Music”. ‘Wani Aba’ is pretty difficult to translate directly, but it may also mean you are jealous or envious.

Bisa Kdei laced a perfect chorus as we could always expect, whiles Manifest was doing what he does best; and that is pulling down words and disarranging them to get them arranged! Word Play combined with real talks took a pretty huge space on the song.

The song basically talks about people who are constantly looking at other people’s success and trying to make the nastiest comments they could about them. It also talks about fighting for your own and stop getting jealous about people’s success

X.O Senavoe Goes Hard On New Single 'Ghost'

From the opening words of GHOST, you know this is an X.O Senavoe you've never heard before.

“Drowning all my sorrows in this vodka, having a ball, wondering when you’ll grow one/I been hearing that you f****rs wanna show out, oh boy, click click on my shot gun”.

If you think that was an incredible start, you should wait ’til the end. "Ghost" is everything you wanted X.O to be – fearless, bravado-spilling, multi-bar-lacing, and all with an effortless delivery, as he lays claim to being one of the greatest African rappers … ever.

Among many things, GHOST is X.O’s indictment of the idea that Africans need to rap in a particular way, or language or tongue, to be considered among the “greatest”.

His ability to do so seamlessly is matched by the irony he points out in his lyrics, “Sorry, I forgot, I’m from Africa right, so I got to spit something we relate to, like how, if I rap in English, even if, I’m the greatest ever – they no go rate you”.

Produced by Gafacci, GHOST is placed on a hard-hitting symphony of bass, 808s, synths, and high-hats which provide the perfect canvass for X.O’s re-emergence. The hook, which is in Twi and translates to “one who’s ghost refuses to agree that you’re dead” is simply eery, and befits the song title.

But the ante is upped when X.O, who represented Nigeria in the BET cypher, flexes his linguistic muscle rapping in Fante, and both Asante and Akuapem Twi for the first time ever. And throughout it all, “El Presidente” is pulling no punches with this one. No more Mister Nice Guy.

After “Oluwadele” ft Efya, and Coptic’s “Real Niggaz” along with Sarkodie last year, Mr. Senavoe went ghost on us, reportedly to dabble in other interests like Law. But if this is, as he says, just the start to a cascade of new music coming our way, then the absence was well worth the wait.

“I got a Barretta for all Barrettis to my Empire, Loaded Luxes for these Calicoes/All first verse, but you ‘gon get this work’ in a landslide, when I pull up like your pantyhose”. Smack!

I don’t regret abandoning accounting for comedy – Foster Romanus

The art of Comedy, especially stand-up comedy in Ghana is growing steadily. But the major challenge this budding industry faces is the lack of sponsorship and wide public acceptance.

Comedians such as (Hon) Fritz Baffour and Tommy Annan Forson have all contributed their quota in ensuring that this industry flourishes. The current generation boasts of many spectacular comedians. One of such talents is the ‘rib cracker’, Foster Romanus.

Foster Owusu Amponsah, who responds to the stage name, Romanus, started his career as a humorist when he joined Top Class Entertainment about a decade ago.

The first runner-up for Stars of the Future, comedy section, revealed on the Xclusive Chat With Real Eugene of The Big Exclusive Show on Radio Universe that he had to desert his accounting class to pursue his dreams of becoming a top class stand-up comedian.

"I went to University of Professional Studies (UPS). I was doing Chartered Accounting…There I realized that the brain was not meant for accounting…It was then that Stars of the Future came up".

After placing second on the comedy edition of Stars of the Future, Foster Romanus focused his attention on exploring the field of theatre arts which eventually led to his admission into the University of Ghana to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Arts.

In the process, he had to abandon his studies in Chartered Accounting to make enough time for comedy. ‘I enrolled and did Theater Arts…That was the course! 'I dey force for there paa’ (comedy)’.

When asked by the host, Real Eugene if he regrets choosing comedy over a career in accounting, Romanus responded that though sponsorship was absent, his passion for comedy kept him in the industry and he has no regrets.

‘I don’t (regret) at all…I did comedy for almost six years without pay…God took care of us. We were using our own monies to fund our shows. But we still did it.’

He added that he had to finance his own shows and performed usually for free.

The old boy of Pope Johns Senior High School who shot to fame with his role in the theatrical work titled Gallery of Comedies at the National Theatre has been soaring high ever since.

His appearance on Viasat 1’s ‘Laugh a Minute’ show also gave more people the opportunity to see Romanus in action.

Foster Romanus is one of the few stand-up comedians the country has produced. He has not failed to mesmerize his audience with hilarious pieces on the numerous shows he has appeared on recently.

Comedy Bar, Comedy Fiesta, DKB Comedy Tour and Flagstaff House are few of the numerous shows Romanus has featured on.
